Movies Worth Going to the Theatre For

I see a lot of movies. Midtown Cinema is where I've seen the best ones. I got tired of reading the previous review which emphasized the cramped seats, so I decided to add my 2-cents' worth. Yes, the rows between seats are too narrow. And no, there aren't any cupholders. Sometimes the sound isn't always great. But the popcorn is fresh-popped and tasty and only $2.75 (can you believe it?). Almost every movie I've seen there was worth seeing (well, maybe there was a French comedy that I didn't really care for). The admission price is what movies ought to be (and used to be) - $5.50 & $6.50. There are often works of art on display along the walls. Right now, 2 first-run Golden Globes winners are playing, and every now and then you get to see those first-class movies here before the 'big-boys' decide there's enough commercial interest to show them in their theatres. I usually go Monday thru Thursday evenings or weekend matinees and almost always have several rows to myself as well as an aisle seat whenever I want to stretch my legs. Don't go expecting reclining captain's chairs and huge screens with mediocre movies that leave you wondering why you spent so much and got so little. You can stay home and watch movies like that. Check out the Midtown Cinema and experience mediocre chairs with first-rate movies that generally leave you wondering why you haven't come here more often. Just remember, the fifth row aisle seat is mine. Thanks.

Pros: Excellent movies, tasty popcorn, a bargain, Vietnamese & Italian restaurants nearby, easy parking

Cons: 'Artsy' atmosphere and mediocre facilities won't appeal to everyone

Alternative theater at its best

fun games and great coffee just the place to conspire with your friends from the under ground. Great small films you cant see any where else around Harrisburg. The venue is intimate and the people are friendly.

Great selection, horrible venue

Informal, cozy feel of the lobby. Delicious desserts and coffee before and after the show. I was extremely excited to finally have an art-film venue in the area but my friends and I went once and will never go back. The seats are extremely uncomfortable. My knees smashed against the seat in front of me and hurt for 20 hours afterward. The seats are so narrow I felt squished between the people adjacent to me. An overweight friend of mine was so uncomfortable he got up and left the theater. When my knee pain became intrusive, I moved to the front row. However, the front row is SO close to the screen that sitting here is also very uncomfortable and induces neck pain. The choice: neck pain or knee pain? The viewing rooms are tiny and hot, the camera equipment old (this movie had to stop and start twice).

Pros: film selection, good food, cozy lobby

Cons: seating, seating, did I say seating?
